Recovering corrupted files ?

Quite a few files on a USB external back up hard drive are showing as
"corrupted" here.

Some image files cannot be opened. Ditto with many documents.

Also, a few downloaded files - legally purchased software - say they cannot
be extracted or opened as they are "corrupt".

While I can download purchased software again, how can one correct such
"corrupt" files?

All files on the hard drive came from one machine that recently had to be
reinstalled with everything due to a crash.

The drive itself passed diagnostic tests and a chkdsk /r and /f were
performed.

Regards and thanks very much in anticipation.

the crash could have corrupted your files, or if a hack caused the crash they
could be infected.
i would recommend ditching it, unless you want to pay a data recovery
company and let them take the hard drive and recover what they can.
