If he didn't make the password recovery disk and has XP Home, start the
machine in Safe Mode (tapping F8 while the machine is starting and
choosing Safe Mode). Log in as Administrator, which will have the
default password of a blank (i.e., no password) unless he set it to
something else. He probably didn't. Then go to User Accounts in Control
Panel and change the problem account's password to something memorable.
Write it down. Now you can boot into Regular Mode with the new
password.
