User Accounts Not Starting XP

I have setup my user account as the admin and each member of the rest of my
family has a user account of their own to log in to. My user account is the
only one that actually goes into XP though. The other accounts are 1 admin,
with password, and 2 limited accounts without a password. When either of the
other three are selected it goes to a blue screen as if it wants to start XP
but just comes back to the select user screen with no error messages. Anyone
know why this happens and how to fix it?

Is this a recent event?

What message(s) do you see on the screen immediately after entering the
password?

Yes, just happened a few days ago to my sons account and now to all except
mine(which is an admin account).

There are no messages when it happens. It acts as if you had simply hit a
refresh button on a web browser. You type in the password, hit enter and it
acts as if it is accepted and its loading your desktop. But it doesn't, it
just returns to the choose a log-in account screen. No error message or
anything at all. Just goes back to as if you hadn't selected an account.

I would use System Restore to set the system back by one week.

Normally, when you log on, the system says "Loading your personal settings".
Does it say this on your own account? On your son's account?

Does the problem happen in Safe Mode too?

I've never done that before, what will be reset to last week? I won't lose
new docs that were created after that will I?

System Restore will affect system files and the registry. It will not affect
user files. Furthermore it is fully reversible.
