Windows 2000 was accidentally placed on one of my hard
drives. Is it possible to recover any data that was the
drive? Or it is all lost?

If Win2000 was installed on top of your existing data then
your chances of recovering any files are remote. You may
have to consider this event as an unpleasant reminder to
back up your important file to a different media at least
on a weekly basis. If you have lots of money to spend then
you could try a data recovery bureau.

used windows recovery console and checked the directory
but there was nothing. performed chkdsk and a dir appeared
so I restarted windows and my drive and data reappeared I
deleted the windows files and everything ok.

good news apparently the installation was placed in a
separate folder. Using windows recovery console I manage
to reconfigure the directory using chkdsk. For a moment I
though all was lost(most of the data is backed up) but
restarting windows I discovered that the drive and it
contains accessable. I deleted the window files and
everything appear ok. thanks

What you report appears contradictory. Your first post said
"after drive formatted", while your next post said
"separate folder". Do you perhaps mean "separate drive"?

In any case, he's lucky. Let's hope others read this and learn the
importance of backups.

Backups and running scanners should become part of your PC hygene. I
mean, you take a shower at least once a week, right?
