Recording Music or sounds from cassette recorder onto CD or sound

I recently bought a Dimension E510 from Dell. I am wanting to record about 30
minutes of a home made sound track from an outside source (i.e. cassette tape
player) into my computer as a sound file or burn onto a CD to add to a DVD
that I made. How can I do this? The sound recorder program only allows 60
seconds of record time. I do have a microphone jack on my computer. Thanks....

Use one of the zillions of recording programs on the net. Audacity is a
popular free choice.

Hello Cherokii

Earlier I too faced the same problem when I search through Google search
engine I found Audio editor link http://www.fleximusic.com/support/cd01.htm

You use the built in windows recorder to make a blank 60 second file, save
it, and reload it. record another 60 seconds, and save again (120 seconds
now)
repeat until the file is of he desired length, and record on a copy of it.

Chuck, there is only ONE good use of the "built-in windows recorder"
and that is to make silent gaps between music files when creating/recording
Playlists on CDs. You can create/record 10 or 15 second gaps of "silence"
between songs. Making 60 second recordings - save - record again is
ridiculous. There are many free apps to record files of any length.
