ripping cassett or lp records

I need to plug my computer to a cassett player or record player which
requires the line-in feature on the computer to be enabled. I found
instructions for win vista but not for win xp; how do I enable this feature
in win xp? the instructions I found said this feature is normally disabled
by default but can be enabled in control panel but I cannot find anything in
my control panel that lets me do this. I have win media player but it only
lets ripping from cd rom; is there any line-in features in win media player
that I am missing? (I used to have musicmatch which allowed line-in
recording).

Use Audacity (google for it) its freeware.

Ten double click on the loudspeaker icone bottom right hand side of the
screen. Options > Properties > Tick Recording > Make sure the Line In is
selected (tick it) then OK

Fire up Audacity and make sure you select Line In as the input.

Cheers,
Jerry
