Recording from wave

Hi there,

In Windows XP Professional, when I go to Volume Control> Options>
Properties> Recording. There is NO option to record from Wave out, like there
always used to be on 2000. There is only 'Line in' and 'Microphone'. How on
earth can I enable this?

I've been searching for an answer all bloody day; I've got a million and one
answers for Vista (to show the Disabled Devices blah blah), but nothing for
XP.

If anyone knows how to do this, I would greatly appreciate it.

It's driver dependant. On some sound cards/chips there will be two
separate mixer devices in the Volume applet. Some SigmaTel or IDT
embedded sound devices purposely removed the "Stereo Mix". Intel
has restored that functionality on recent IDT supplied driver software.

It probably would help if you re-post and state which sound device
your setup uses.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop with a 'Sigmatel Audio' card.

I found a site which claimed that one can use LG Sigmatel drivers on Dell
notebooks, so I'm currently downloading the 95mb package, and I will see if
this works. If it does, I shall post here to say.

Should be about 20 minutes before the download finishes and I give it a go.
However, if you know of a driver more specific to my notebook, I would be
grateful if you posted it in case this crazy LG thing doesn't work

The information from the site I found fixed my problem. If anyone else has
the problem of not being able to select 'Wave Out' or 'Mixer' as a recording
option when using a Sigmatel audio card, follow these instructions. (copied

Hey buddies…

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 E1505 Laptop! and as a music composer I wanted
to sample some midi into wave audio. So, I needed the “Stereo Mix†/ “Record
What you head†/ “Waveout mixâ€.

Too bad that Dell’s sigmatel driver does not support this feature! but I
found a way to fix this issue. All you need to do is install LG’s drivers for
Sigmatel… They’re working like charm here

Instructions:

* Follow this link: http://us.lgservice.com/
* Click on: Product Support
* Go to: Device Driver
* In product, select “Notebookâ€
* Search for “Sigmatelâ€
* The download the result

Once the download is done, unzip that folder and open Setup.exe! just follow
the instructions… It will ask you to restart your PC… and BINGO!! Solved

To enable Stereo Mix:
1. Run Sounds and Audio Devices Properties from Control Panel
2. Click Audio tab, Volume (Sound Recording)
3. Click Options, Properties, Recording
4. Enable Stereo Mix slider, click OK
5. Select Stereo Mix as input device
