Recording from Audio Tapes

I have been recording music from my audio tapes using Movie Maker and then using Media Player to transfer it to CDs. Worked fine until I recently upgraded to MM2. Now I can't figure out how to record music that is playing on my computer and coming from a tape deck rather than a CD. Did MM2 eliminate this capability?

Hi There,

I may be teaching you how to suck eggs as the saying goes.....but, audio
from your tape deck is being fed into the "Line In" socket of your audio
card, Yes?

If so, then have you ensured that the audio recording source is set to
Line In.

Just in case you do not know how to achieve this, double click the small
loudspeaker that you should find in the system tray, then click Options >
Properties > Recording and then make sure that "Line In" is checked. Then
close the dialogue box....you should at that point notice that the main
window describes itself as a Recording Control....all you need do next is
select "Line In" as the source of your audio.

I used to record from LPs and tapes too. First of all, how do you record audio with MM2 in the first place? I looked around and I can't find any record button anywhere. It seems that MM2 doesn't record audio like MM1 did
I could record FREE with the original Windows Movie Maker, and now it looks like I'll have to buy one of those sound recording software programs. By the way...if MM2 can't record, does anybody know of a free sound recording program that you can download (not just a free trial)

Hi there,

This is how to do it............

1) Click the small microphone icon which is located on the left hand side of
the program and just above the time line
2) Click on the "Show More Options"
3) Towards the bottom of that screen but still above the time line you will
a box titled Audio Source....
4) Click the small down arrow to the right of that box and select your audio
source...It does not have to be a microphone.
5) Record your audio.

Hi Joh
Did what you said and changed microphone to line in. Still can't figure out how to record what I'm hearing using MM2. It has no record button like MM did and I can't find an option to record anything but video

Hmmm,

You have got me then, on my screen, having followed the original
instructions I can see a "Start Narration" & "Atop Narration" button. Do you
not have these?
