I have a Microphone attached to my computer and would
like to record a file so I can play it back later.

Can Windows XP Home Edition do this? If so how?

Thanks !

Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Entertainment and the sound
recorder. Record and then save the file. The Help function will help you
get started.

Open Sound Recorder and click HELP.
Or open HELP & SUPPORT and in the search box type Sound Recorder.

Right click speaker icon on right end of task bar and open. Use options to
make sure microphone is checked. Uncheck mute on microphone, at this point
you should get echo to speaker when you speak into mic. You can check mute
if this is ok. Check volume controls.
Open program/accessories/entertainment/sound recorder and you are all set.
If microphone didn't work in first step, you'll have to trouble shoot that.
My mic doesn't work when plugged in normally, but I also have an input on
front of machine and that works, so I suspect it's just an internal cable
problem which I'll look at one of these days
Note, the mic mute just turns off echo thru' speaker, will record either
way.
