Recommendation for best File Recovery Program

I erased a file on my hard drive and now I need to try and recover it,
so I am looking for Recommendations for best File Recovery Program.

I know I can send my hard drive to a company, who will recover it for
me, but that's too expensive. I have Norton's Protected Recycle Bin, but
the file is no longer there.

I am running XP, without SP2.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Fortunately I haven't had an accident lile this for years, and make daily
backups.

"Google" under "Undelete", and there's plently of them out there. Years
back, I used Norton utliltities "undelete", or some occasion when the backup
recovery failed. I haven't checked lately on it.

Basically, most of these utlities work the same way, as deleted files are
specially marked, it'll display a list of them so marked, and the the utlilty
changes the bit marking the file as deleted.

You don't need a recovery service for this. When I was in need of it, its
for cases where somthing went wrong with the hard drive such as the HD motor
buring out.

Try Restoration from the Favorite Freeware listing at
http://www.aumha.org/free.htm

Use the "alternate download" link - the main one does not appear to be
working properly.

Good luck
