Recovery of deleted file from memory stick

Dave

I accidently deleted a file I need from my memeory stick attched to the USB
port of my XP SP2 machine.

The deleted filed does not show up in the Recycl Bin.

The memory stick has not been written to since the deletion.

Is there any way to recover the lost file?

Yes, almost certainly.

"Deleting" a file doesn't actually delete it; it just marks the space as
available to be used. There are third-party programs that can sometimes
recover deleted files. If you haven't since written to the memory stick,
almost certainly the file is recoverable.

Download an undelete program (here's one:
http://www3.telus.net/mikebike/RESTORATION.html but there are several others
to choose from; do a Google search)and run it. The usual caveats about
downloading on another computer don't apply in your case, with a USB drive.

Hi,

Yes, there still is chance to recover them. Someday I got same problem and
recovered photos from SD card. Install an data recovery app e.g. Easy
Recovery or GetData Back ...

Thanks Ken.

This is the same rsetoration.exe that nepatsfan recommeneded earlier.

I tried this and it will work for some files but not for the Access database
(.mdb) file I needed. The file appears to be recoverable and I restore it
by copying but it will not open in Access.

I tried using MS Access JetCOMP and opening it through ODBC but thses also
produce errors.

I imagine databases are mosre sensitive than other files.

Thanks again.

You're welcome. Glad to help.

Either a file can be recovered or not. It depends on whether its space has
been overwritten, and not on what kind of file it is.
