Recommend a new printer?

G

George

I want to buy a new printer that can copy as well as print.
Inkjet seems suitable. I guess if I need to be able to copy, then an
allinone is in order. Since I have a router, a network printer would
seem in order, but USB will do.

I do not want trouble, which I have had with my present HP C7280 AIO.

Someone recommend something?

If you do a lot of printing with the printer, then the economics
of the expendables is what counts. The reason you see cheap allinone
devices, is because the manufacturer has "chipped" the cartridges.
The printer may "declare" the cartridge is empty, and force you
to buy a new one. The "chipping" scheme is designed to prevent
cheap refills from being used. If you could get a printer, where
the cartridges could be refilled, it would reduce your per page
cost.

A laser printer might have a more reasonable per page printing
cost.

So it all depends on whether you actually print a lot with the
printer, as to what the right strategy is.

For the "do not want trouble" bit, you'd have to compare comments
about drivers with each company in the business. There are
customer reviews on this site, so you can see how much trouble
a product is.

I've had my fill of HP as well.

I've been considering the Epson NX300, because it has the features I'm
looking for, and I had previously been happy with an Epson printer
before getting into this fiasco with HP.

I cannot make a first hand voucher of the product, however.

If you do quite a bit of printing, get a Brother.
Cartridges are large and cheap.
No hassle with stupid chipped tiny expensive cartridges.

I presently have a HP Business Inkjet 1200n (printer only). It's been doing
a good job for the past 3 or 4 years.

I f I were looking to purchase a new printer, be it stand alone or "All In
One" I would check out the Kodak line. They make a good case for their ink;
supposedly cheaper and of;f better quality (pigment). Also, if you have the
room, consider individual printer, scanner, FAX,

In your selection, you may want the scanner to be able to handle 8½"x14"
documents.

Unless color is essential, I suggest you get a Laser Jet. They get
as low as $99 (US) these days, don't die because of clogged ink,
and are much cheaper and faster.

If you need color, consider what you get with a color laser. It
probably won't be as brilliant as an inkjet, but it will certainly
be cheaper. Prices get down to around $200. (US)

I just bought a Canon Pixma 630 and am very happy with it. I would
definitely recommend it.

Cheers.

I am on my fourth Canon in 20 years...and the last 2 are still in use.
Both copy scan and have memory card slots...
I've never had a problem with a Canon.
But I have looked at the new Kodak's and wondered..I guess that would be my
2nd Choice.

When you look be sure to get the price of the ink refills. Some brands out
there are really cheap...say 80 bucks and then it costs
you another 80 bucks to fill with Ink.

It sounds like you already have your mind made up so just go for it. I am
Epson user and since I print DVD label daily so Epson RX680 (I think it's
the right model?) and happy with it.

I also refill my ink (cuz I am cheap) cuz DVD label doesn't require extra
$$$ so I am happy with the printer and cheap ink.

I haven't tried network on my inkjet, but my laser printer is network
printer and it works great with wireless laptops.

I can recommend avoiding ANYTHING made by HP...

Canon do all-in-one devices that are as cheap as chips. I've heard good
things about Epsons, too.

Cheers,
Andy.

I am not HP user but I believe if you worry about clogging then HP could
be a better choice, and if you (don't mean directly to YOU) are experienced
inkjet user then any inkjet printer will do.

HP, you don't have to worry about clogging because the print-head is built
into the ink cartridge instead of printer like Epson (and Canon too I
believe). So, if it's clogged then you just toss the bad ink cartridge away
to replace with newer one. The bad new about HP that they cheat customer by
setting the expire date on their ink cartridge, or it will expire (couple
years?) if you don't use for few years.

I've had no trouble with my HP930 or HP5550 printers over about 9 yrs but
perhaps they 'don't make them like they used to'. My Epson 2480 scanner has
been great for a couple of years as well.

I've never seen any good quality text from any Epson printer so that would
rule an Epson general purpose workhorse printer or AIO out for me as letter
quality is important. IF only photos were likely to be printed then perhaps
Epson would do.

HP cartridges seem to be getting tiny and expensive lately so I doubt if I
would buy an HP today. Epson make the best cheap scanners and Canon make
the best all round cheap printers currently, so I would buy these, not an
AIO, but if I had to it would be a Canon.

I'm sorry if my top posting disappoints you. It is an efficiency

Did you read the referances I posted? There never should be two or
three feet of message for something like that. Anything not
germane to the reply should have been snipped. This keep articles
short and understandable. Top posting is NOT efficient, and is
highly annoying.

Take care,

"No problem at all. Just scroll down to the bottom of the page and
read backwards."

"Only thing is ... I forgot where we started."

"How right you are."

"Sure does make us stand out, doesn't it?"

"Yeah ... but we are."

"Maybe they're just not clever enough."

"I wonder why nobody else top-posts?"

"That's nice."

"I'm a top-poster too."

"Yes."

"Are you a top-poster?"

"Hi."

"Hi."

No...Not_a_frigging_chance of that.

HP = Overpriced junk, with overpriced (and at times faulty) cartridges.

HP support is also *abysmal* and not worth dealing with. Their
scanners are just OK at best, with woeful software bundled with them.

Get a Canon. Or a Lexmark.

Hell, use a pen and paper before spending your hard-earned cash on
anything made by HP.

Lol
Lexmark cartridges cost more than the printer.
Same rip off with some of the new Canon.
Get a Brother printer.

Well, this is what I would suggest .. and hope the OP will come alive from
his death too <bg>

- If you want photo quality then Google for the best Photo Quality.

- If you want to save $$$ on ink then Google for third party ink. If you
want to save even more then Google for CIS or refillable ink cartridge then
learn to refill yourself (not directly to you but to everyone who interests
in saving $$$)

- If you want to move to the refillable ink catridge then spend few hours to
shop for the lowest price (all cartridges are similar or same manufacture),
and make sure to get the newest version of ARC, and make sure it works with
your printer etc..

Then you can enjoy whatever printer you wish without having to worry about
expensive ink.

The OP is alive and well - following this thread. My HP AIO is still
failing miserably. Hell, yesterday the normal re-install to get it to
work again caused my computer to crash, requiring a recovery back to
3/30. Thank God I had one.

Thanks

Unless you are the OP which I didn't pay attention to the poster's name to
know who the OP is, but I always like to hear the result from the OP.

HP, I have 1 which I used it about 3-4 times and still have it sit doing
nothing but collecting dirt for around 3 years now. I had so much problem
installing the driver and getting the printer to recognize the driver. It
usually took me some hours to get the printer working, and if something
happn to the system I have to deal with it all over again.

It's still on the original ink cartridges and I guess the cartridges are
expired by now.
