Recent updates

Ever since the most recent updates were installed Windows XP Home edition, I
can't access any of my documents which include pics. I receive that it is not
responding. In order to access my documents I had to go back to a date prior
to the update. Update keeps detecting that I have not updated my computer
and automatically downloads updates. I had to turn off automatic download
because it happened again and I had to restore to a date prior to my update.
Is this an update problem or is it my computer?

It's a known issue with a windows update.
