Recent security patches breaks FrontPage?

We publish to 2 NT4 servers using FrontPage.

After applying the recent security patches to win2k
desktops, we no longer can connect to one of the two web
servers.

Has anyone else seen this symptom?

We are able to reproduce the problem: before patching-no
problem, after patching-problem.

It is possible. What I would do is open the IIS manager and run the
extensions configure tool (All Tasks >> Check Server Extensions). When it
asks if you wish to tighten security, say yes. That clears up a lot of
issues, as the extensions get out of sync with IIS settings.

With Windows 2K, I do not remember how to check the users that have
authoring rights, so you may end up having to remove the extensions and then
"re" configure them instead to set the proper groups for authoring. Prior to
some of the security changes, a website could be left open with no authors,
meaning anyone could author it. Many of the patches lock this down. If I can
get on a Win 2K machine, I will look at how to set authors (on 2K3 now) and
post a follow up.

If that does not work, check and see if any of the installs added the lock
down tool for IIS. If so, you need to loosen things just a bit, as lockdown,
by default, completely locks down everything.
