Receiving multiple message copies, not removing messages from serv

I've long used Outlook with my POP3 account. I recently began having a
problem whereby I keep receiving the same email messages repeatedly. When I
go to the web-based server for this account, each email message is still
present and there's only one copy of the messages that Outlook keeps
downloading repeatedly, which indicates to me that my Outlook is not removing
my messages from the server as it should. The only recent change I've made
to my Outlook was downloading MS's Office Updates, which included, amongst
other updates the Security Update for Office XP (KB873352). I looked on the
advanced tab for my POP3 settings and I do not checked the "Leave a copy of
messages on the server" box. I also removed all "rules" previously set up.
And, I shut down and restarted my computer. However, I continue to have this
issue of receiving the multiple copies of the same messages.

Do you scan your incoming mail with an antivirus scanner? If so, try
disabling the scanning. Some AV programs, like Norton AV, require
uninstalling and reinstalling without the scanning option.
