Duplicate messages received in Outlook 2007

'Leave a copy of messages on the server' is checked for one email account.
This account repeatedly receives duplicate messages. This is only happening
with the one account which has 'leave a copy of messages on the server'
checked. Other accounts (truly different accounts/email addresses/mail
servers) which do not have this checked do not have a problem with duplicates.

Could this be due to a problem with the POP3 mail server itself? What
troubleshooting steps can be taken on the user's end to prevent more
duplicate messages from being received? Turning off the 'leave a copy of
messages on the server' option is a last resort. Thank you in advance and
please let me know if I can provide any further details.

There can be a number of causes for this. See if this helps:

Thanks for the tip. There are 5 possible explanations there and I can rule
out 2 of them right away - "Multiple Accounts" (the accounts in question are
indeed separate accounts and not just aliases) and "Profile Recreation" (this
is an ongoing problem and not something that happened upon one
re-configuration). I will look into the other 3 possible explanations and
follow up here.
