Receiving Mail is Stuck

Windows Mail has worked fine since purchased computer in February 2008.
Today, 5/20/08 one incoming message stuck in "receiving". No error message.
If I try to shut down the computer, it tells me that a program is still
running and I must "abort" the download to shut down the computer. Outgoing
mail will not send unless I shut down and restart the computer. I'm
basically computer illiterate. Please make your suggestions easy!!!

If your email provider offers webmail, use it to log onto their email server
without running Windows Mail at all, and delete the oldest message you have
been unable to download.

In addition to what Robert suggested, the best way to stop a stuck
download is to close your Internet connection. Don't force a WM or
computer shutdown because that can corrupt files.

Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista

Try this Microsoft fix:

Although it only mentions 'outbox', it works for all mail folders.

Also, make sure your antivirus program is not configured to scan emails.
That is often the cause of corrupted/undeletable messages.
