receiving a fax

I can't receive faxes in Win XP. Does the computer have
to be on? I have tried to set (using the wizard) fax to
store faxes in a particulare file. It just doesn't work.
 
Yes. Of course the computer has to be on.
So why can't you receive a fax? What happens when you try?
