Receiving a fax on my computer

Kostas

Hello,
I have windows 98 machine with Outlook 97 and the fax
software which comes on the win98 CD.
I send faxes no problem and they go into the outlook 97
application (inbox - sent items).
However, when I get someone to send me a fax as a test, it
does not come through.
The phone rings, and I click answer now (as I have Outlook
97 open with the fax icon in the systray), but nothing
comes through.
I aldo changed it to automatic, but still to no avail.
It answers the incomming call, but there is no
transmission.
I know that it is not the other party that is making the
mistake and that it is definitely from my end.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks kindly.

Regards,
Kostas

This software is so old it has not been supported for years. There is
probably no one left who can troubleshoot it.
What is known about it exists here.
http://www.slipstick.com/config/win98-wminstall.htm
Make sure you installed it and configured it correctly.
It is hard to imagine it would be compatible with any current modems.

No, not with Outlook 97. The only "free" fax program it worked with was
Microsoft Fax.
Have you tried increasing the number of rings to answer? What error messages
are you getting?

Hi,
Yes it is Microsoft Fax, i'm only saying the file name and
where it was located.
Anyhow, the error is something like unable to receive the
fax.
I tried manual and I tried automatic where it picks it up
after 2 rings. I also have an answering machine but it is
Built into the phone and I cannot shut it off, but the
computer (either automatically or me manually) receives
the fax before the answering machine gets it.
One more thing I will try right now is leaving MS Word
open, that might help.
Thanks. bye.
