receiving a fax - file format

I'm running windows XP. I receive faxes directly into my
computer, so I can manage the documents as electronic
files, never resorting to paper. The bundled fax
software receives faxes as TIFF files. For reasons not
worth going into, I really need to receive faxes as JPEG
files, or to be able to convert from TIFF to JPEG
easily. When I convert from TIFF to JPEG using the "save
as" function in the fax viewer, it only converts the page
displayed, not the entire file; therefore it can be
extremely laborious trying to convert a 20 or 30 page
document. Is there a way to do this with the bundled fax
software, or is there a fax application "out there" that
would allow me to choose which file format I receive the
faxes? so I can select JPEG, and receive directly in that
format? Thank you very much. Alan K

Hi Allan,
I was looking thru the fax newsgroups and saw you Question
on saving the TIFF to JPEG.
There are several ways I feel you can accomplish the
conversion However, you did not state which program you
are using so, this is broadly stated/universal.
A. when the file is open, go to edit (click) select &
click on "select all", go to file select and click "save
as".
B. Windows save dialog box opens. Type the name of the
file in the file name field as: example "my received
fax.tiff" to "my received fax.jpeg"
This aspect is int he file name the file extention is
changed from tiff to Jpeg. then in the "File type field
select JPEG.

Another way to accomplish this yet a bit tedious if the
above does not work for you, is to try saving th tiff, to
a ".txt or .rtf file " extentions which can be converted
easily, and read by an word processing machine out there.
Yet a word of caution , make sure you keep a back up file
of the tiff to ensure you have a original just in case of
a problem in saving.

Now, If i may I have a question for you if you can answer
me? Did buy an external fax device for your pc to send and
recive faxes. Myself I am accustomed to professional
office faxes, and not sure about my home pc system. I have
a modem, internet access, a printer (only) and my Win fax
wizard configured, but I don't know if I need an external
device. for my HP 510n PC.
How did you do it?
Thanks Allan

Hope to hear how you did it!
