Hi I'm running Windows 2000 sp4. Lately for no apparent reason it will just
switch off and reboot itself. There have been no hardware changes nor
software (except windows updates) changes. Spybot Ad Aware and Norton AV say
the system is clean. It happens when ever it feels like it no warning.
Sometimes it will happen on start up other times after it has been on for a
couple of hours. It only started happening in the last two weeks or so.
Anyone got any ideas?

Try changing the RAM, I have had several machines where the ram caused the problems when it was a few months old.
Also had the odd CPU give the same problem.

What's in the event log? and 'Save Dump' enties? when did these entries
start? and what errors are shortly before that? Do youy have lots of
Windows File Protection error in the Logs?

There's nothing in the event log. Except for a Norton driver fault which has
been around for a long time. It only has to do with file retieval so it's got
nothing to do with the problem.
