Reboot problem

For the last few months automatic shutdown was not working correctly on my
system ( it just stopped during shutdown with fans running and black
screen). So I turned this option off. Now when I shutdown I get a screen
"You may now turn of your computer" (or similar words to that). Thats fine.
If I turn the PC off at this stage. However if I don't turn off fairly
quickly it reboots itself but this reboot hangs. Once this happens the PC
will not boot again at all unless I wait for around an hour after which it
reboots just fine again!!

Any ideas?

The waiting for an hour thing sounds like hardware failure.

Well yes, except that after that it works fine until next time I try to shut
down and reboot. Once its going there are no problems with it whatsoever!
