The PC:
Emachine T2542
2.6 mhz
512 mb
OS = WinXP Home
The problem:
The PC kept running slower and slower. Spy-bot and AVG showed negative. I
did a defrag. No help. I tried to shut down but the PC hung up and wouldn't
shutdown so I turned it off with the power switch.
When I rebooted the problem started. First the PC gave a message that the
PC had been shut down improperly and it stopped at a screen that gave me
boot up options. I choose normal. When the boot process gets to the colored
splash screen with the progress bar it shows for about 5 seconds and then
reboots to the BIOS screen and on back to the option screen.
I choose safe mode. It starts to load drivers. After showing that it has
loaded mup.sys it waits about 7 seconds and then reboots to the option page.
I choose safe to command prompt. Same thing.
I tried a DOS boot disk and I booted to an A:. Of course, I couldn't read
the drives but I could run apps from the disk.
I tried a CD-ROM that loads a small Windows type OS and it seemed to work
OK.
Can anyone give me any help or point me in the right direction?
Thanks.
