Realtek High Def Audio Componet Device Cannot Start

Hi,
Been updating a build recently from an old 865 based board to a newer
Intel915G model, every thing is all ok upto a point (manged to get VGA
drivers Inf drivers and Lan drivers sorted). But I cannot seem to get the
realtek high def audio woring. The Microsoft UAA Bus driver is insalled OK!
I added device manger this morning to see exactly what was going on and the
Bus driver is there ok but the realtek high def audio driver has a code 10
error (this device cannot start), I even tried re installing from usb pen
(used various driver versions with the same result). Have used 2x driver
components 1x was from Brad Combs overat xpefils and the other is my own.
Any body had a similar problem, also any ideas?

Thanks

I haven't used that driver on the board yet, but I'll help out if I can.

First, silly question. Have you verified that the driver works in XP Pro?

Second. Did you look through the FBALOG.TXT and SETUPAPI.LOG for further
clues?

Third. If you want to email the driver to me, I'll make a blind pass at
turning it into a component and see if my results are different than yours
or Brad's.

Hi Peter,

Driver by itself work perfectly, unfortunately in light images you might lack of support needed for tray application and control
panel extensions to work.
Since driver can work without it you can remove all references to user mode services and dll files from realtek inf file and then it
will work for sure.

Hi Gordon + Slobodan,

In responce to Gordon's comments:
Yes it works fine in XP Pro I have the same hardware side by side running XP
Pro, I must admit I'm not constantly on the XPE scene and not actually sure
what I'm looking for in the fbalog.txt (had a look couldnt see any problems)
and setupapi.log (will check tomorrow).

Slobodan, yes our image is 'light' as you may call it, minlogon, own shell
etc and we may very well not have support for tray app and control panel
extensions (all we need is for the windows volume control box to work).
Would it really cause the driver not to load (code 10) if there are user mode
services and dll references in the inf file? Also I have never had this
problem with other audio components before, it just seems to be this one
based on the uaa bus component, I'm sure i must be missing something. Device
wise comparing device manager from the xp pro machine and the embedded image
they are identical apart from the code 10 error on the realtek high def audio
component.

Thanks guys, will try your suggestions in the morning when I get in.

Hi Peter,

Yes if any part of driver installation do not succeed installation can be aborted.
You can easily see if this is a case by examining the setupapi.log file.

Slobodan
