Set back and enjoy a beer;long story.
I think my previous problem with excessive hard disk activity was due
to the overheating of my GPU unit on my ATI Radeon X 1300 graphics
card( 62 degrees C. (Fan did not run). So I took it out and installed
an XFX ATI HD 4350 Card.(Does not have a fan to wear out) The system
seems OK now. I have not noticed any excessive drive activity.( as
of yet)
However now I have another problem.
( Sometimes I feel like I should take a 1/4 stick of dynamite and blow
my computer up,but I do not have $700.00+ to replace it)
Anyway back to the problem.
After I installed the drivers and software for the XFX card I no
longer have any sound.
I tried re-installing the RealTek drivers that came with the computer,
as well as from a file of the original drivers that I got from the HP
web site for my computer, but I get a error message saying I need the
Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio. I downloaded the
version for my computer and tried to install it and it ran for a
couple of seconds and then nothing.
I checked the device manager and there was not listing for the RealTek
drivers or the Microsoft drivers.

No: A has nothing to do with B, so that's where I stopped reading.

If your video card is overheating you may hear one or more fans spinning
up, to try to clear the heat, and you will eventually see a distorted
image on your monitor.
