realtek audio problem

i recently experienced the following error message upon start up:

RTHDCPL.EXE - Illegal system DLL relocation
The systen DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory
The application will not run properly
The relocation occurred because the dll c:\windows\system32\HHCTRL.OXC
occupied an address range reserved for windows system DLLs.
The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.

this appeared after i tried fixing a different error message related to
Rogers self-healing software. i removed the software and the message did not
reappear. using the same logic, i removed the Realtek audio software from my
pc using add/remove. i then received the above pasted error message. i've
gone through these related posts, tried downloading patches, updating
windows, etc, to no avail. do i need to reinstall realtek audio to get audio
back on my pc? if so, what is the safest and most reliable method?
thanks.

You'll need to revisit realtec & reinstall the software, make sure you get the
proper download(s)..Also,xp or windows update wont have any of thier soft-
ware because its all unsigned, non has gone thru WHQL....

Since you removed the Realtek audio, I don't know why you are surprised
that you have no sound. Reinstall the drivers. Here are general drivers
information:

Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific
model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers
anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too.

Thanks Andrew. sounds simple enough. but the realtek site does not offer
any results for the search input "realtek audio driver for windows xp."
