RealNetworks Event Launcher?

What is it? Almost every time I login to the internet, McAffee's firewall alerts me
to it. If I refuse the connection, a few minutes later it wants to be connected. Is
this a RealPlayer application or utility?

Yes it's caused by Real Player, it want's to "call home". Go into Real
Player and disable all the call home and auto update features.

Thanks, but where are they? I've looked under Tools->Preferences but don't see
anything. They seem to make the disabling awfully tough.

Yes it can be a real pest to get rid of. Is there no "Automatic
Services" item ther to disable? Try using CodeStuff Starter to disable
it: http://codestuff.cjb.net/ Also, it's been a while but this thing
may also add itself as a Service, look in Control Panel>Administrative
Tools>Services just to make sure it didn't park itself in there.

I couldn't find anything in the Admin section that seemed relevant. I just sent their
tech support a msg about it.

They're probably going to send you an email stating that you are
breaking the EULA (license) by trying to remove the options. This (Real
One) is a pretty insidious thing, it's discussed all over the place and
many have security and privacy concerns about it, many well known and
respected sites that track and study these issues simply recommend NOT
installing Real One software. I have been using it since the W95 days
and have always disabled these options, but they become more entangled
and difficult to remove with every new version, for that reason I don't
upgrade the software unless it's absolutely necessary, then it's a whole
new round of tricks and jumping through hoops to disable it. Use
CodeStuff Starter, it can reign it in. Also use a firewall and have the
firewall block it.
