Have a look at Video2Photo...

Video2Photo can capture individual frames from a video source, such
as a
DV camcorder, Web cam, or from a local video file (AVI, DivX or
MPEG).
You can play the movie from within the application and easily select
individual frames or sections to be extracted. In addition, you can
choose to apply a variety of effects or processing options to all or
selected frames, including color corrections, cropping, old photo
effect, and more. The result can be exported as HTML thumbnail
gallery,
Flash file (SWF), AVI movie, or individual image files. The interface
is
easy to use, even for non-technical users, and uses a step-by-step
wizard to guide you through the process.

Just tried your suggestion with the Media viewer solution I use. (Video
display generally interacts with the OS on a very basic level. That's
why the system keys for copy to clipboard don't *necessarily* work. -
You are most probably aware of that.)

But that's not what I was up to tell, anyway. The interesting part (which
nearly knocked me off my feet) came after I inserted the picture just
shot in IrfanView. I have to mention, that I didn't really capture a still
image, but simple hit the Print key on running TV display. After that the
*live video stream* played in *both* - my player and IrfanView!!

The same occurs if using the Capture functions of IrfanView itself. It
doesn't matter if the video source plays inside a window or full screen
on my machine.

But it *does* matter if one closes the media viewer before IrfanView.
(Or at least as long as the video source still plays inside it.) I
encountered a nice BSOD on my Win2k machine... (Not the first, but a
*very rarely* visible animal.)

In the "I heard the answer to this before, but I wasn't paying attention
department."
Try fidd;ing with your video card settings.
Right click desktop,Properties,Settings, advanced. Turn off hardware
acceleration. Try to make your screenshots. Don't forget to turn
things back to normal.
The answer is out there...I just don't remember right now.

fiddling

microsoft says
its supposed to do that ha ha

So turn off "overlays".

Overlays are used/created/whatever by DirectX to create effects on-top
of video... color changes, brightness, contrast.. like the equalizer
does in WinAMP... with this turned on, you should get a black box where
the capture should be...See if your software can do this Ravisent?
never heard of this.

If you remember the freeware that used to work post back.

Try IrfanView from http://www.irfanview.net

Set up a shortcut with the following : i_view32.exe /capture=0
then put the shortcut into the QuickLaunch bar. I don't have a dvd
drive so I couldn't test it, but it captures every screen I have ever
used it on.

When you do the capture you will find yourself in IrfanView with the
entire screen as an image. You will then need to edit and/or save it.

Which?

Really?
Media Player Classic and Virtualdubmod can extract stills. Maximus DVD
player should do it too.

Regarding your response, "Set up a shortcut with the following :

shortcut from this? Thanks!

Right Click (RC) a blank part of desktop

Left Click (LC) "new"

LC "short cut"

LC "Browse.." and browse to where you have installed IrfanView
(and associated plugins, the plugins must be installed)

LC i_view32.exe, LC OK, LC next, LC Finish

RC the i_view32.exe icon that was just created on the desktop

LC "Properties"

In the pop-up go to "Target" and add " /capture=0" without
the quotes after the .exe part of the target. Note the blank
space befor the /capture=.

LC Apply, LC OK

Now you should be ready to go. Double-LC the icon, and that
should capture your entire screen display and open it as an
*unsaved* image in i_view32 that you can edit and save to
an image file.

If the screen capture worked, drag the i_view32.exe icon down
and drop it into you Quick Launch bar so that you will be able
to launch it with a single click while you screen is filled with
an image.

You can download IrfanView & plugins from http://www.irfanview.net

In Win98 you must have Hardware Acceleration turned off in order to
grab video - from the Camtasia (commercial) help file.

Thanks so much for telling me how to make the shortcut for
'i_view32.exe /capture=0 '. It works great! I didn't know IrfanView
could do this. Thanks again for the info!
