Video Capture using Belkin USB Videobus II

Hi,

I have just purchased a Belkin USB Videobus II. It came with a copy of
Videowave III software. However, the software is an old version and has
'issues' with Windows XP (and keeps crashing). So far I have been able to
capture video via a video recorder. I have done the same with the Windows
Movie Maker. In each case no sound had been detected during the capture
process. Apparently, this is normal since the capture device is USB and is
therefore not connected to the PC's sound card. I still have some reading to
do (regarding the Windows Movie Maker) and may yet discover what I have done
wrong but sadly at present, the video files I have produced seem to have no
sound when played through Windows Media Player.

Does anyone here have any experience of this hardware? Ideally, I would
like to transfer some of my video collection to the PC and then onto DVD. I
have determined how to write avi files to a DVD so my immediate problem
relates to video capture with sound. Is there any reliable freeware that may
help me with this task?

Many Thanks,

Bob

From my recollection of this you need to run a separate cable from the
audio RCA socket on your camera and fit that to your audio card
line-in.

The software you use will then need to be set to synchronise the audio
/ video signals.

I also recall that the quality of initial video signal was very
contrasty so that the software settings needed adjustment to make this
more viewable.

One of the reasons I gave up on it was that it was USB 1.1 and kept
dropping frames during the capture process. I ultimately bought a VIVO
graphics card with analogue (composite and s-video) connections
although I think a TV In card with appropriate connectors would be OK.
