Reading News - Windows Mail

I subscribed to this group using Windows Mail. It puts this group under the
news server (news.microsoft.com). But when I click this group all I see is
one message! I've tried everything that seems logical to me but cannot get
all of the messages in the group to display. Only one message! What is going
on? How to get a list of messages to show instead of just one? Thanks.

Hi,

Click tools/get new headers.

Also, check view/current view, and make sure 'show replies to my messages'
isn't checked. If it is, you will only see threads that you have taken part
in.

In addition, try:

Tools>Options>Read tab>news>Get>and set the # of messages to a few hundred.

Right click the news group in the left pane of list of groups and on the
context menu click
synchrnize settings>all messages or New Messages,

Rick & CH, thanks for the replies. None of that works. I had tried those
options before posting. Also, I need to explain better what is happening. I
didn't mean I had a list of one message. I have a message that has been
posted, opened in the right frame. Only one big frame to the right with the
message opened. To the left is the default view (inbox, outbox, sent items,
news.microsoft.com, etc.). I have tried all options that are available and
it will only display one, opened message. With the one message opened, I can
click news.microsoft.com, then reclick the vista.general newsgroup.
Sometimes I get the previously opened message and sometimes I get a
different message, opened, to the right.

It was working correctly yesterday. I wonder if it might be a virus causing
this? I am not using an AV! I am running Vista 64 bit Ultimate. I am not
concerned with getting a virus as I have just installed and am playing
around with Vista. I went into a newsgroup yesterday and opened a lot of
videos so I wonder if that has caused the problems. If I don't solve this I
may just reinstall. Thanks.

1) Type eventvwr.msc in run and click on Applications>scroll down to any
errors you're having with Win Mail.

The errors might lend a clue to files that are corrupt that can be fixed.

2) Run "SFC" (Windows File Protection)

One frequently useful way to fix IE, Windows, and OE/now Win Mail in Vista
is to run system file checker.

Type run above search above start button>right click it when it pops up on
the start menu>type in sfc /scannow. Often this can fix Win Mail problems
by scanning file signatures and replacing corrupt files from a storage area
where intact ones are kept called DLLCache in the \Windows\System32 folder.

3) Anytime I hear someone say "I wonder whether a virus is causing this" I
can understand where it could be a nebulous situation with symptoms
medically, but on a computer there is no place for wondering if a virus can
be causing anything. Run a viral scan, and if you don't have an AV program
get a free one like Win One Care Live 1.5 for Vista and you can run online
scans from MSFT by googling for Online Win One Care Microsoft.

Run an antivirus scan. Run spyware scans. That's just basic common sense.

4) With every bit of respect due you, this is absolutely bad practice --you
write:

"I am not concerned with getting a virus as I have just installed and am
playing
around with Vista."

Whether you're experimenting or use it as a prodution box, if you don't
protect against malicious scripts, viruses, blended threats and Trojans all
kinds of things can happen to jam you.

You're jammed now aren't you?

You just might reinstall, but with these kinds of practices you just might
be reinstalling a hell of a lot of times for all kinds of reasons, none of
them that needed to happen.

Try View | Layout and make sure you have all the windows display. Enable
the preview pane and see if that helps.

Antivirus software has always been a problem with OE. Try disabling email
scanning and see if that fixes it or disable the antivirus software
completely and see if that helps.
