Ok.. I have a Dell with a maxtor hdd in it that just blue screened with unmountable boot volume. No matter what I did I could not get the thing to boot.. I cannot afford to loose the data on it.. It was on XP Pro.. so I popped the hdd into another machine running win2k and I can see most of the data but I cannot access the user folders within the documents & settngs folders. So I changed the win2k computer name and username/password to mirror the WinXP macine.. still no luck.. how do I get the data off this hdd?

As far as I know, you should be able to drag that data across, strange that you can't.

You could d/l Knoppix, a live Linux app and run it from a CD, I've heard that lots of people have had success recovering lost data using Knoppix, but never done it myself.
