reading articles in Microsoft Word

Greetings:
My first post. I have a computer with a 1.4GHZ chip and am running
Windows XP.I have been downloading antenna articles that are in
Microsoft Word. My version of Word is 2003.Whenever I open an article I
get a window that has three buttons. The leftmost is " Windows Default"
The middle is " MS-DOS" and the rightmost button is " other encoding"
There is a window to the right where you can scroll down various file
conversions?? all the way from Baltic to Greek and Hebrew etc. I have
tried all the permutations and nothing will make the file readable. Is
there a newer version that will fix the problem?

Are you sure they are Word documents and not PDF format?
If they are Word 2007 docx format documents you will need a converter
