Readability :-((

A bit of a cry for help here!
How can I make the font larger AND bold for *Start>All Progams* please?
I can no longer read these, even with a magnifyigg glass.
(BTW, I do NOT want to use *Magnifier*)
I also have a problem with windows like *Switch Identities*, *Newsgroup
Subscriptions*, *System Properties( etc.
They equally VERY hard for me to read ;-(
I already have *Extra Large Fonts* selected, and have changed a few things
via *Desktop>Properties>Appearance>Advanced* i.e.
Icon = Tahoma 14B
Menu = Tahoma 12B
Message Box = Tahoma 14B
Tool Tips = Tahoma 14B
Palette Title = Tahoma 14B
I am using XP Pro, @ 1024 x 768 resolution on a 19 inch crt (I don't want to
go back to 800 x 600!)

Look under accessublity options, there should be a way to adjust your
screen in there...

I have put everything into bold, so I'm not sure of which one of these
three are directly responsible for the action. Try bold on; "Active
title bar", "Inactive title bar", and "Selected items". All that I can
try to pass along is that I have everything checked that can be put in
bold and this has worked for me.

With apologies for the length, here is my situation right now.
(some is pasted from the Notepad file I am using to keep track of what I'm
changing!)

Font sizes 08/08/04

Here (Notepad) (Format>Font) 20B Lucida Console

Desktop>Properties>Appearance>
XP Standard, Blue, Extra large fonts

Desktop>Properties>Appearance>Effects
Clear Type enabled, last box only NOT ticked

Desktop>Properties>Appearance>Advanced
Icon = Tahoma 14B
Menu = Tahoma 12B
Message Box = Tahoma 14B
Tool Tips = Tahoma 14B
Palette Title = Tahoma 14B
Also, addded 10/08/04...
Inactive Title Bar = Trebuchet 17B
Active Title Bar = Trebuchet 17B
Selected Items = Tahoma14B

So, *Extra large fonts* improves the Programs List some, but not enough.
(is there a way of changing the font to something bolder maybe?)

FFS! Why does this have to be so hard to do?
Things that are merely difficult with full vision are becoming impossible

You aren't getting any answers because the correct fix for this problem is
to drop the resolution to 800x600 and you specifically stated that you would
not consider this option.

The only thing you can do is keep working with the appearance settings until
you find a combination that works for you.

At 800x600, all of the things you cannot change like the font for the Start
Button and other dialogs would be the right size for you and you would be
able to *reduce* the font sizes and likely get a better result for the
things that you can change, rather than trying to increase everything at
1024x768.

AArrggghhhhhhhhh. Been there, tried that....
With respect, that (800x600) is NOT the solution to my problem.
I am using a quality 19 inch CRT monitor BTW, not a laptop.
I also tried the *High Contrast* option, and I think that is horrible !
I really do NEED to use a BOLD font, as normal fonts aren't *solid* enough
for my eyes to resolve well.
I literally cannot see a font like *Bernhard Fashion* at all...
It's fortunate that i can type, otherwise it would be a *One finger aided by
magnifying glass job!*

I have ARMD (Google it, learn something, and pray that it never happens to
you).

I can't believe that such a simple thing can prove so hard to do.
I have to ask why, (under accesssability?) mo-one has thought to prove the
option *Make all fonts BOLD*.
It's not only the Program list, it's things like *Switch Identities* System
Properties* *Nesgroup Subscriptions* as well...it makes EVERYTHING much
harder than it need be.

Now, can ANYBODY suggest a solution.
If not, will sombody tell Microsoft..................

OK I see your problem now... Have you tried to find any secondary
software? The main problem is that windows is a visual based OS... So
making fonts larger will not help you?

Also try turning on Cleartype. Did wonders for my laptop screen.
Display Properties, Tab: Settings, Button: Effects, then in option "Use
the following method to smooth edges of the screen fonts".

can advise what you want to do is not possible). Computers can't do
everything.

No, for the simple reason that it never occurred to me that it (making the
Program list) would be so darned difficult to do/
I assumed it was just something I'd never found.
I suppose that all the people at M$ are youngsters with 20/20 vision, so
they can't imagine that some not-so-old fellow with damaged foveas might
need it.

I have found a bit of a work-around which will do for now though...I have
copied and pasted shortcuts to all the software that I use regularly into a
folder in *My Documents* and then I made a shortcut to it on my desktop.

How can I pin this to the start menu??????

I have the font for my folders set to 14Bold.
Believe it or not, I had to do this by:
Desktop>Properties>Appearance>Advanced>Icon>14>B
Ain't Windows wonderful!
Whoever would have guessed that that would affect the font for folder
contents (and other things!)?
An unwanted side effect is to make *Read* messages in OE to stay bold, but I
suppose that would be classed as a bug or something.

I really find that hard to believe, but I guess I must!
