Tahoma fonts etc.

I had a tech support guy tell me that my Tahoma fonts 'might' be messed up.
So he proceeded to 'update' the Tahoma.ttf and the Tahoma (True Type).ttf
fonts (evidently). He also changed the Desktop font properties from Normal
to Large and rebooted. Then, he says he changed the Large to Normal back
(which I've verified).

Problem: The fonts (text, not icons) of the Desktop icons are 'appearing
bold' all the time and when in Outlook 2003 my 'read' messages have the same
'font/boldness' as my unread messages. This seems like a 'simple' change but
I'm not too sure what to change.

Ideas, suggestions and directions appreciated.
TIA!!!

Hi Tom,

Go to Display Properties and select the "Appearance" tab.
Click "Advanced".
Under "Item", select "Icon".
In the bottom right-hand corner, click the "Bold" button (it toggles bold
type on and off).

Tony,
Thanks for your suggestion. I'm still looking for the solution as the
Icon&Bold combination didn't work. I still see the same info in the same
font.
Got any other ideas as I DO appreciate your suggestions. [The "Bold" button
wasn't 'on'.]

Hi Tom,

On the "Appearance" tab, click "Effects" and un-tick "Use the following
method to smooth edges of screen fonts" - does that do it?

Hi Tony,
Well, we're both still searching for a solution. I was told that I might
want to consider reinstalling the fonts from my original WindowsXP Pro CD. I
still have this and I'll be taking the CD home this weekend for the specific
task. Now, this is assuming that the Tahoma (or whatever) fonts have been
'switched/corrupted/whatever'

I normally don't do anything with my original OS CD. Do you have any idea
on how to do this? I'll check the MS site also.

Other ideas/direction?

Yep, that'll work if your present font is corrupt. It's in the \i386 folder
on the CD. It's compressed and has the name tahoma.tt_. Use the "expand"
command.
