Read receipts

I have Outlook set up to request read receipts automatically and all e-mails
are sorted into folders by set rules. The problem is that the read receipts
that come in are not always being linked with the original e-mail making
tracking difficult. i.e. no tarcking tab appears on the original mail.
Does anybody have any suggestions or is it just the way it has to be?

You must process (open and delete) the receipts from within your Inbox. The
tracking tab should now appear on your sent items.

I've tried that and it makes no difference.
The e-mails are sorted by rules after sending does it make a difference if
they are moved?

They must be in your Sent Items folder in order for tracking information to
be available, I believe.
