Read messages set to unread in Outlook sent items

I am experiencing this issue with a number of users:
In sent items the same items periodically get marked as unread. If you mark
the item as read after 7 days it will get marked as unread again.
I have checked http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325219/en-us but we are
already on Outlook 2002 SP3.
I haven't tried the fix in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900721/en-us yet
as one of the users also gets the problem in Outlook 2003.
Any ideas what may be causing this?

Rich,

If the issue happens when they reply or forward a message then upgrading to
the service pack should solve the issue. What you're saying here is that
Sent Items are appearing as unread. Which I think is a seperate issue all
together. Can you duplicate the issue and post the steps.

Hi Calvin,
Unfortunately I can't reproduce this issue myself.
One of my colleagues has the problem with 2 messages that are in his sent
items.
Every 7 days these get marked as unread. There are two other users with a
similar issue although I don't know whether there's get marked unread every 7
days.
