read message marked as unread

I have a question that pertains to read messages. If I receive a message,
read it and then mark it as unread is there any indication anywhere that I
originally read the message? The message sent to me wasn't set with a
delivery or read receipt attached. In other words, can I make it look like
the original message wasn't read when I actually did read it. I've been
asked this question and I'm not sure what the answer would be.

Sure, the envelope is purely cosmetic in that regard.
