how to reverse "mark all as read"

While attempting to change a message to "unread" I hit "mark all as read" is
there a way to reverse " mark all as read" in order to identiy my unread
messages ?

Nope. You can select all and "unmark as read" but then they are all set
to that status. There is no Undo for changing the read status on items.
 
Only if you restore the entire mailbox from backup.

Alternative methods to prevent this from happening in the future;
-Use CTRL+ENTER or CTRL+Q to mark a message as read
-Move the "Mark as Read" command to a place directly on your toolbar or QAT
(depending on your Outlook version)
-Move or even remove the "Mark All As Read" from your menu.
