Read envelope not changing in icon column

I just started as an IT person with a new company this week. I have an
outlook user that says after an update ran a couple weeks ago by the previous
IT person, her envelope icon in the message box does not change from unread
to read.. bascially the envelope doesn't change from unopened to open in the
column... any suggestions as to where I'd start looking to fix this?

This is outlook 2007 (winxp) - she is using a reading pane and even when she
clicks in the reading pane, it doesn't change. I know this isn't the end of
the world.. but it is an annoying thing...

Have her try starting Outlook once with the /cleanviews command switch.
Start>Run>outlook.exe /cleanviews
Be sure to include the space after ".exe".

This did not work.. I also ran a repair on the program.. still doing the same
annoying thing...any other suggestions? My next step was to do an msconfig
shutting down startup items to see if it was something causing a conflict,
but I'm thinking I'll probably have to do a complete uninstall - use windows
installer clean up, and reinstall...

Got it fixed.. it ended up being a stupid user issue (Me).. the selection in
Tools/options/other - reading pane button wasn't selected to change the icon
from closed to open... still not sure how it got unselected, but it's fixed
now.. thanks for you help!
