"Tools", "Options", "Print" TAB. Uncheck the "Background printing" option.

when I want to print a Word document the message "Word is preparing to
background print the document" shows up at the bottom of the document
window. The print que takes a long time and printing does take what seems
like forever. How can I diable this "background" preparation? I do not
think it has to do with printing a background on the page, but rather how
the print spooling occurs.
