Background printing

I keep having to re-boot my computer because it is NOT RESPONDING when I'm
using Word. When I print a document there's a message at the bottom stating
WORD IS PREPARING TO BACKGROUND PRINT THE DOCUMENT and it shows a bar showing
how long it'll take to do this. Well, it never finishes and keeps freezing
(i.e. NOT RESPONDING), so I have to re-boot my machine. EVERY print job it's
doing this all of a sudden. I've tried to turn OFF the background printing.
It'll print the document, but when I click on something, say closing the
file, it'll freeze then.

Any suggestions?
