Re-USB 1.1 and external devices

If I have USB 1.1 ports on my PC, can I still use a device (external CD-RW)
which the spec says is suitable for USB 2 (ie will it run OK albeit more
slowly?)

Yup. But be advised--significantly more slowly.

USB 1.1 runs at approximately 12MB, USB 2.0 runs at 480MB.

Yes - but. USB 1.1 is only 11 or so Mbits/sec - say up to 1MByte after
allowing overheads. Which is around 6x speed in CD terms. So keep the
burning speed down below that - for safety force 4x
