Re-seating the Heatsink/Fan

Mr. Mustang

I have an AMD 64 3500+ (Socket 939). I seem to be having some heating
problems and want to try and re-seat the heatsink/fan on the processor. I
have a tub of Artic Silver 5 thermal compound that I will use.

What is the best way to clean off the thermal pad from the chip/heatsink
that AMD provided with the processor?

Thanks in advance.

HI, I would just use a tissue and wipe it toward the cpu center to prevent
it running down the sides. When its pretty clean use some 91% isopropyl
alcohol and do the same thing with tissue. Any excess will quick evaporate.
Warning: only put a very thin layer of arctic silver on, it runs down into
the pins if too thick and will short out the cpu possibly. You don't really
need arctic silver any thermal paste or pad will will do.
