I have some problems with my HD and I want to do a
complete re-install of all my software.
If I wipe my HD and re-install Windows XP (Home Edition)
will I be able to register again. Will I have to purchase
another Windows XP package ?? It is an oem version
purchased at the time I bought the HD and other pc
hardware.

Regards

Alan

You mean "Activate" rather than "Register". Registration is optional,
activation is not!
You will have to activate, unless the vendor pre-activated the copy prior to
installing.
It takes about 30 seconds over the internet.

.
Alan, no you won't have to purchase another WinXP
package. I've had to reformat and reinstall a few times
this summer. No problem.

Or you may have to phone Microsoft Activation (800 phone number???).

You never needed to register even the first time. You certainly
don't need to do it again.

However, what you *must* do is reactivate it. If you don't, it
will stop working, except in Safe Mode, after 30 days.

Yes, of course you can activate it again. Simply do so. If it's
been more than 120 days, it will take place over the internet as
easily as it did the first time. Worst case, you'll be given an
800 number, and have to make a quick easy voice call where you
just explain that you've reinstalled it.

No, you certainly don't have to buy another copy.

You can reinstall and activate again as many times as you like on
'substantially the same' hardware. See www.aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm..

That is *activate* to have the system work with the hardware; not
'register' (you as owner) which need not be done at all, and I certainly
would not do so at a reinstall
