STAND BY ICON not high lighted after

I just put a new hard drive in the PC and Re-installed the OEM XP Pro and
when turning off the PC the "Stand BY ICON" is not high lighted like it was
before the new HD. What controls this ICON? How can I get it back? Thanks.

The most popular reason is an outdated video driver.

If it was working before, and you put in a new HDD and new XP
installation, you installed the video drivers that came on the CD -
who knows how old they are? They are probably quite generic.

Somewhere along the way before, you may have updated your video driver
on purpose or a new one came along in some other driver updates, maybe
for your motherboard chipset if your video is onboard.

You can look in My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manger,
Display Adapter, Properties, Driver to see what version you have.

You can choose to Update Driver and let XP try to figure it out (some
people frown on that idea) or with you display adapter and current
driver identified, visit their WWW site and download a new driver.

The easiest is to just let XP try to do it - it may not find
anything. If it finds nothing, it will tell you.

After you install a new driver, if things get worse, you can always
roll back the driver to the last version.

Thanks Jose -- that was it -- the video driver. I would have never thought
that!

Thanks again.

Good job.

If you are still around, did you try to let Windows find the update or
did you have to download one from your video manufacturer WWW site?
