I've had the same problem as David and carried out the spyware suggestions
and the SFC.
Q. Does the SFC finish it's check and if there are no problem just goes off
or should there be results?
Spybot found 406 problems and It corrected all but a few. I also bypassed
the ones that were not ticked as they all seemed to concern the registry.
I still have the problem with the browser.

Also Remove the registry entries. You often need to run Spybot or Adaware 2 or 3 times then once a week. Check & remove everything listed. Before I run the spyware checkers, I always clear cookies & history etc in browser tools/internet options. That cuts down on the amount of items found by the spybot/adaware. If anything stops working after removing the items (I have never had a problem), you can click on recovery & uncheck that item.
After you have resolved the hijacking problem, click on the immunize button, you can check "Permanent Internet Explorer immunity". Also see at the bottom & Put a check against "Lock Internet start page.
