With Outlook closed, find and rename the outcmd.dat file to outcmd.bak.
Then reopen Outlook.

| I am really hoping someone can help me with this issue
| because I stand to loose my entire database and a lot of
| busness if I can't fix it.
|
| Here is the situation:
| -This happens sometimes when there is a thundrstorm and
| I've usually remedied it by using Gateway's GoBack feature.
| -This time the "hang" happened I had tried to install
| Quicktime to view some Teaching CD Roms. The Quicktime
| Install failed and hung- (didn't respond).
| -My system subsequently crashed
| -I started up again and tried to open Outlook
| -It just hung on the small box start up screen
| -I tried Control Alt Delete to see what was wrong and in
| the Running Prgrams box it said:
| Microsoft (R) Outlook (R) 2000 [not responding]
| Usually it just says Microsoft Outlook 2000 when I check
| what programs are running
| I've seen this display before after my computer has been
| on in a thunder storm and Outlook has hung upon me trying
| to open the program.
|
| I did the GoBack to try to fix the probelm, but it did not
| resolve the issue this time and I can't even open Outlook.
|
| Unfortunately it has been about 6 months since I backed up
| Outlook to a pst file.
|
| I fear I'll loose everything I have if I uninstall Outlook
| and try to reinstall it.
|
| Unfortunatley, I found out recently when trying to update
| Office that Gateway actually installed Microsoft Office
| 2000 Professional on my systm at the factory. I thought I
| was buying Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business as that is
| what I ordered and those are the disks that came with my
| system NOT the MS Office Pro ones. I can't even update
| office because it keeps asking for the data1.msi file for
| Office Pro, which I don't have. Apparently both MS
| Professional and MS Small Busines are installed on my
| system and I have no clue what I'll lose if I uninstall
| the Proessional version and the Small Business Version and
| re-install the Small Business disks that I have with my
| system. I am also not sure if I'd need the serial number
| for Small Business as I don't even have that, but do have
| the disks that came from Gateway. The system is 3 years
| old and Gateway Tech support is beyond useless.
|
| If anyone knows how I can open Outlook or why this problem
| would be caused please resopnd here. I am very desperate
| as I stand to loose all my business contacts and that
| would be a disaster for me.
|
| In the meantime, I'll be kicking myself repeatedly for not
| backing up Outlook until I hear back from someone. LOL
|
| Grateful for any help I can get!
|
