Re-installing windows

My computer is a few years old now and has picked up quite a few bugs along
the way. i would like to completely wipe the hard disk and re-install
windows, but would this mean the activation key ontop of my computer wouldn't
work to activate it?
 
If it is the operating system software that came with the system you should
be fine.
