re-install Windows Media Player

XP Pro SP2 all Windows Updates

my Windows Media Player (WMP) gives script errors every time I open it, and
every time I double-click a song to play:

Line: 1
Error: Syntax error

I'd like to uninstall/re-install or over-install WMP. What's the best way
to do this ?

I notice that in Add/Remove Programs are listed

Universal Media Player
Viewpoint Media Player

both with the WMP icon ...

There is also listed Windows Media Connect.

What to do ?

probably checking to see if you paid for the song and having problems
phoning home.

use google and search for the phrases: windows media player spyware

not sure about them, if you dont remember installing it then you got spyware
Viewpoint Media Player
definately spyware, it has loaded in a couple of times on my systems.

I would go to windows update and hide the option to get WMP upgrades.

my 2c.

I think that's a bit paranoid. MS has their own anti-spyware app ... I run
it all the time.

Anyone else getting script errors on opening WMP playing tunes (ripped from
CDs) ?
