Not likely it's an interaction/contention issue. My personal views on "ALL"
Symantec software may not be what you want to hear. It's bloated, very
heavy on system resources, expensive to buy, expensive to renew every
year. The functionality you seek can be obtained with a free Firewall app
called Zone Alarm, I use/recommend eTrust AntiVirus - although there
are a few free alternatives, Avast and AVG and AntiVir. I've serviced a
lot of customers with Symantec/Norton and had my fill of 3-4 hours of
work to untangle, Installs, Upgrades, Subscription renewals. Symantec is
living off it's "Biggest Selling Security Software" reputation and stopped
innovating and creating effective software about 2-years ago. Take it back
or float it back up Digital River (If online purchase). Both your PC and
your wallet will be better off.

Norton Internet Security 2006. It may be worth to note that I also have
SBC
DSL broadband Internet service that uses a 2 wire router as a standard
connection. This 2 Wire router also has a built in firewall that I don't
think can be disabled. Could the two firewalls be fighting each other?

All Security software has some performance degradation associated with
it. Some more than others. First thing to examine after installing a app
and
machine performance drops noticeably, System & Application Event logs.
Click Start, Run (Type) EventVwr.Msc [Press Enter]
Events are logged chronologically and Red Icons denote error(s). Many
times the newly installed software may have startup/service issues that
will
cause the PC to run abnormally slow.
It would probably help to know which Security Suite you installed.
It appeared that I had successfully reinstalled win xp home since
everything
seems to be working fine. However, after loading an internet security
software package, the computer speed slowed to sludge. After removing
the
software the computer appeared to be fine. I completed all the win
updates,
including the sp2 upgrade. Could I have missed something in the
overall
reinstall process or should I guess that there is something wrong with
the
software?
